about
Vigil by LINE was recorded live at the Barrymore Theatre in Madison, WI on November 13, 2021. CW: discussion of murder and suicide
We play Vigil in honor of queer and trans lives we've lost to murder and suicide, and in celebration our queer and trans family and friends and siblings. Queer and trans joy and resilience is radical, particularly for those most marginalized: trans women of color, anyone who is multiply marginalized. Wherever you're at, whether or not you're out, whether or not you have people in your life who affirm you--you matter and you belong here.
Vigil is also a call to action for allyship, from our cis and straight community members and those of us who are queer and hold a lot of privilege because of our other identities and life circumstances. With LGBTQ+ rights increasingly under attack and scrutiny, we need everyone on board, willing to listen and learn, speak up when we hear or see microaggressions, and care for one another, advocating within our circles of influence no matter how small. This goes for all forms of marginalization--the systems of oppression we are swimming in every day and that we've internalized are huge and their influence is deep, but I believe our collective power is stronger than we can imagine.
With love + reckless optimism,
Maddie (they/them)

LYRICS:
Light, shine it so all can see
Fate, falling so faithlessly
Tonight we cradle our memories
The weight I'm carrying carries me
I held a vigil in my mind that night
How many candles will it take this time
Until my people stop dying?
Until my people stop dying
Light, shine it so all can see
Fate, falling so faithlessly
Tonight we cradle our memories
The weight I'm carrying carries me
I danced for ages in my mind last night
Cuz sometimes I feel strong in the weakness
but it's always on my mind
It is always on my mind
It is always on my mind
Doesn't mean we'll quit our fighting now, it
Doesn't mean that nothing's right
Doesn't mean I don't feel strong in the weakness
but it's always on my mind
I held a vigil in my mind that night
How many candles will it take until my people stop dying
Let's dance for ages in our minds tonight
Sometimes I feel strong in the weakness
but it's always on my mind
It is always on mind
It is always on my mind
It is al- it is always on my mind
It is al- it is always on my mind
It is always on my mind
